May 20, 2026Roses LOVE the cold weather!!
With the drought and extra hot summer months we have had these past few years, this cold weather brings a much needed relief for our roses. And these Double Red Knock Outs are showing off BIG time right now‼ Did you know that you do not need to protect your roses during a freeze? They love the cold weather more than the hot weather. In the summer, these red knock outs are actually more pink than red due to heat stress. Once it cools off - their true colors really start coming out. The exception to this rule is if you have roses that are overly stressed from the summer heat/drought (which makes them weaker) or grown in containers or both. If you have roses in pots - it is not a bad idea to move these pretty babies into the garage during an extended hard freeze. While most of them will be fine during freezes - if the plant is overly stressed already he might not make it through without the little bit of protection. We still have most of our roses on sale too - so it's a great time to buy & plant roses right now!
